We're moving right along and the kids certainly seem to be getting older faster than we are! Dan is a senior in high school, and doing all the “getting ready for college” stuff. Lauren driving with her permit, and a junior. Natalie is in 8th grade and busy with a science fair project right now. Sarah is in 7th grade and enjoying lots of reading and writing. Becky is still our full-time homemaker, calendar-keeper, errand-runner, and chef while Eric continues to work as an engineer and computer programmer.
Dan has selected Charleston Southern University as his destination for the next stage of his life. It's a Christian college in Charleston, SC. He's planning to study Criminal Justice and is also applying for the Army ROTC scholarship. Dan spends most of his free time working as a lifeguard at the local YMCA and plans to spend the summer working again at Kenbrook Bible Camp (lifeguarding there too). He plays bass and drums for the LCBC BranchCreek high school youth group and also helps with tech as video director in the main service and in the middle school ministry once per month each.
Lauren continues to enjoy her academics at the high school, digging into as many AP classes as she can fit into her schedule. She is still doing flute for marching band, percussion in the indoor drumline, and viola with the school orchestra. She's thinking about a career possibly in accounting or nutrition and dietetics. Lauren seems to enjoy being able to drive as often as possible and we're trying to figure out what to do about a car if Dan ends up taking his to college (instead of leaving it behind for Lauren to use… which was what we thought would happen until he picked a college so far away).
Natalie has somewhat suddenly become an avid sports fan! She loves to watch basketball, football [Go Eagles!] and baseball and quickly reads our new Sports Illustrated subscription cover-to-cover as soon as the magazine arrives each week. She also joined the Running Club at school, switched from violin to chorus (and was quickly selected for the Bux-Mont Honors Chorus), but still plays clarinet like before. Natalie is doing great in school and also leads/organizes a Bible study on Friday mornings before school.
Sarah is in her second year at the middle school. She and Natalie pal around a lot and are both in the school musical this year, Aladdin Jr. Sarah loves to spend time writing, reading, doing puzzles, helping around the house with laundry, cooking or whatever else Becky needs help with. Sarah is often on her school-provided Chromebook doing research or playing Cool Math Games. She plays trumpet in the band and cello in the orchestra at school.
