Wow! What a different kind of year it has been for all of us. Praise God for his many blessings in the midst of all the strange happenings around the world. For our little piece in the craziness, Eric transitioned to work from home in March at the same time as all the schools shut down. So, it was an almost full house in Telford except that Dan stayed in Charleston, SC. In the fall, all four of the kids started in-person classes again with Dan in his senior year at Charleston Southern University, Lauren in her junior year at Messiah College (now Messiah University), and Natalie and Sarah at Souderton Area High School. All three schools have (so far) managed to contain COVID outbreaks, and at least for us, life is mostly back to normal compared to the earlier part of the year.
Incredibly, even with everything going on, we still have so many blessings!!
- Happy, peaceful, and joy-filled home in which to live, relax, and work
- Continuing employment for Eric that is often overwhelming, but busy and challenging
- Reliable technology, including Zoom, for Becky to keep teaching in Women's Ministry
- Pre-COVID trip to Ukraine in January for Dan and Lauren (with Rich and Donna Engle)
- Calm understanding when other overseas trips were cancelled for Lauren, Natalie & Sarah
- And one new thing, for which we haven't yet uncovered the blessing: In November, Eric's mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Follicular Lymphoma; she started chemo on December 2nd
Eric and Becky: We played a lot of darts, foosball, and games in the initial COVID shutdown but don't get as much time for relaxing anymore. Becky keeps busy around the house with plants, little projects and taking care of everyone. Eric tries not to let at-home work take over so that he has time left for more fulfilling hobbies and keeping the indoor/outdoor machines and technology working.
Dan: He's finishing his Communications major, with a minor in Graphic Design, and still spending a lot of time with his photography hobby/job among his other work. Not sure what life will look like after college, but his skills, talents, and photography equipment give him plenty of options. To see some of his photography, check out his new-and-improved website, www.dansteffy.com.
Lauren: She's in her junior year of accounting at Messiah (and on a special scholarship she received at the end of her sophomore year). She will be staying with a friend in the Mechanicsburg, PA area for a summer 2021 internship at an accounting firm. Then after one semester of classes in her senior year and some intense studying for the CPA exam... we'll have our very own accountant!
Natalie: Old enough to vote in this year's election, she's already made her voice heard, but has a slightly weightier college decision looming. She applied to four universities and is waiting until she hears back from all of them before deciding which one she really wants to attend. She got to spend a week up in Maine again with her friend Miriam this summer (in spite of COVID).
Sarah: Driving already! She's a few weeks away from getting her license so she is still the designated chauffeur for the family while she collects time towards her 65-hour licensing requirement. When not in school, she loves to draw, do puzzles, and paint. She's the night owl of the family spending many late nights on all the schoolwork from her heavy AP classes this junior year of high school.
